It's hot!

Unagi Kabayaki

A bit of a disappointment cuz it doesn't give that i-don't-wanna-brush-my-teeth-after-eating effect. I would say this is not their usual standard. Could have been better!

Ikura sushi

Ikura is my absolute fav sushi. One unwritten rule about eating sushi. You have to eat that entire piece of sushi in one bite. If not you’re loserish. Don’t ask why because you’re just like a ballerina who cannot do split.

The Ikura Sushi……It’s like a terrorist had placed bombs on the rice. The roe were high pressured capsules of aphrodisia that burst upon contact with your tongue. Every single roe explodes like the <a href=” http://www.hometownfavorites.com/pop-rocks-candy.htm” target=”_blank”>pop rocks candy.

Whoa , it is orgasmic I tell you.

Imagine every roe brings you an orgasm. Fuiyoh! Hundreds of simultaneous orgasms!!

If only Ebiko sushi is as orgasmic!

0_o

You prolly die of orgasm OD.

Soft Shell Crab Temaki

There’re a lot of funny stories about soft shell crab handroll/maki. I once ordered this soft shell crab maki in another mysterious jap restaurant, when the waitress repeated the order I heard she say “One sap sap geh maki (means wet wet crab in Cantonese).

Personally I would prefer maki to temaki (handroll) , because a temaki is categorized as one of the “forbidden food to order on first date” in iCheesalot Bible, alongside with Caesar salad and lamb rack.

You see, eating a temaki, in fact, could be a very seducing action.

BUT!

Do you eat it from the tail or from the top? Whichever way, it requires great poise and grace! If done wrongly, you will end up feel like kicking yourself in the face because you just act like an oaf in front of your cutie.

Also, it depends on the freshness and quality of that particular temaki.

Uh. If you want to embarrass yourself, try sushi king’s.

Imagine the seaweed gets so limp and so difficult to tear off. When you attempt to bite it off, you risk looking like a ferocious alligator that descends upon the prey and peck at it viciously, tearing and swinging its head from side to side. And your date might find himself watching Animal Planet.

Such a beastly act of eating!!!

Okay. OTed a lil. But my point is!

This SSC Temaki is so cheesing fresh and crispy, you can just eat it top down/bottom up/sideway, whichever way you want!!

Go seduce your dreamboat now!

Oh by the way, another different angle of the temaki shot . It looks like the great offerings--3 joss sticks on the altar

Last but not least.

Macha Ice Cream

Still, the rock melon was waaaaaaay better.

=D

What rocks? Melon rocks!!

Yes people you are a cheesnius. Rock melon it is. And it is not a normal rock melon. It rocks.

The melon rind

The sliced melon

Let's take a closer look of that juicy flesh

Mozzie and I had this out of the world melon in a mysterious Japanese restaurant. Believe it or not. Two slices of this melon is RM three figure.

-_-lll

Wahaha now you regretted guessing it right because you will have to buy me (better still me and Mozzie) that RM three-figure rock melons for lunch. We promise we won’t ask for more. =D

It’s freaking ex la, but it’s like once in the life time experience lor.

Let me tell you why the melon is sooooooo good.

……

Yea that was how good it was. Mozzie and I went completely speechless. In fact I still don’t know what to say about it. Let me try.

It tastes like a piece of melon without fiber, sort of like a scoop of 100% melon sorbet, only 100,000 times better. I can just say it melts on your tongue like an ice cube in a hot oven. It fell apart and so did I, over the intense sense of euphoria.

Good things always melt in your mouth don’t you think so? *winks*

The most premium food are kinda melty anyway. Like Foie Gras, Melty Kisses (Strawberry please), Danish cream cheese… and… ROCK MELON!

Hmmm, since I cannot aptly describe the exact euphoric taste of a heavenly slice of rock melon, lemmi quote some of Mozzie’s lines to give you a more comprehensive picture of it.

“I wish my saliva tastes like this rock melon juice.”

“If only i ate enough for me to turn into a rockmelon cheese.”

“That aiyo-sudden-burst-of-flavor is so tsunami, katrina, el nino, la nina everything. okay okay, don't say i'm not patriotic, so kinabalu also can.”

“It is so good, I think I can puke it out and eat it back again and it will still taste a gazillion times better than honey dew”

-_-

The last one is gross la.

Anycheese. THAT is what I would call a perfect ending to a wonderful meal. No amount of Tiramisu or Crème Brulee whatsoever can ever beat that.

And trust me. No more honey dew for the rest of your life!

By the way I’m absolutely joking about the lunch thing. You can save it. I only wanna dine with the first person who answered my question correctly. You lucky bunny =D

Stay cheesed for more reviews!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://icheesealot.blogspot.com/2006/03/what-rocks-melon-rocks.html' title='What rocks? You can’t eat it before eight? Siao ah.

Imagine when out of the yellow you have a lil dying cravie for a piece of irish cream choccie and you look at the clock, it is 6.30pm!!

So potong steam right?

But fret not. It doesn’t say whether it’s after 8am or after 8pm. So technically anytime is after eight. Wahahah!! Why am I so smart, mom?

Before i even open the box, the strong aroma of irish cream could already send me to drunkville ( I’m a bad, bad drinker). The dark chocolate is not bitter enough to balance the tooth-rotting sweetness of the irish cream fondant. It might get a little too cloying after eight after eights.

Mozzie and I both agree that After Eight Mint is still way better. Classic. But i would still say it was worth trying, it's after eight after all.

I like how every piece of choccie is individually wrapped with a thin paper so they dont kiss each others' butts and so that your hand don’t get sticky too. But some say that’s the fun of it—getting your fingers muddy with choc, so that you can lick it, or get someone to lick it (for example your Chinkerbell Maltese) !

=D

Choccie Points: 6.5

Meiji Choco Petite Assorted

(from left to right: Marble Strawberry Chocolate, Coffee Beat, Choco Baby, Apollo Strawberry Choco Drops, Marble Chocolate )

Don’t be deceived by the packaging.

Uhm. Let me rephrase. DO, be deceived by the packaging.

Wait that still sounds wrong. Ok nevermind. Let me tell you.

I bought this only because I was feeling particularly aesthetically aroused that day. You know, like how sometimes you look at beautiful things and you just wanna have them, whether they are of use or not, and even if you might regret having them later on. For example, (girls please look at whichever item covered with spiderweb in your closet and shoe rack) and (guys please refer to how Nick Lachey feels about this [then] wife).

I’ve never expected the content beneath the packaging to be even remotely tasty.

AND I WAS WRONG.

It was in fact so good, Mozzie and I almost fell off the ground and lolled on the ceiling.

They are so mini, so tasty, so pretty.

We both like “Coffee Beat” the most. It looks and tastes excreamly coffee bean like. Like how the uncrushed bits of coffee beans in your Ultimate Mocha explode on your tongue and give you that few second orgasmic high. lol.

But still I need to control my caffeine intake so Mozzie, you can have a whole box to yourself. Bah.

-_-

I love Choco Baby too. It is so so tiny, so so infant, so so lovable, so soft and tender, just like babies (If you are observant enough, some Babies have a star shape filling on the bottom end). You just wanna pop them all into your ingestion orifice at one go and masticate every juicy bit of them.

*insert lickerish cannibal-like guffaws here*

Choccie Points: 7

P/S: Just feeling abit horny today. Don't blame me, blame the choccie! LOL.

But the thing is

He found someone else and they live cheesily ever after.

*inserts glass-breaking sound effect*

I found my Mr (almost) Perfect this Valentine’s.

Here I would eagerly like to declare my eternal love to this special somecheese, whom I’ve been secretly admiring for a looooooong time.

I actually wanted to talk about him earlier, but I was a bit shy and unsure. Those who are observant should notice I have been talking a lot about him lately… *blushes*

But I guess today is the day to let it all out. It’s crystal clear. I’m sure he’s the one.

Nocheese is 100% perfect. When I found this Mr 91% perfect (the remaining 9% belongs to the flaws I’m gonna pick on him after our engagement.) , I fell completely head over cheese in love with him.

He has that X factor that makes you go “whoaaaa” non-stop.

Cheesh, he looks sextremely cute. Not to mention sextremely sexy too. Everytime I look at him I just wanna strip him off his clothes. You'll fall in love with that place, trust me.”
“The food is soooo good! So cheesy!!”
“Cheesie you MUST go. No matter what. Take a cab or something.”
“OMG how can you not have been to Café Café?!”

Yea. Like, how can I not have been to Café Café.

And NO LONGER!!

Café Café has been officially cheesily devoured. Muahahaha.

I don’t know how to describe this place. It is said to be quintessentially Parisian-- echoes of the combination of Le Quartier du Marais, Montmartre together with a touch of Moulin Rough (sic, quoted from its original website).

But whatever man, me ain't artsy-cheesy. In plain cheesie term—Cheesarific. Period.

Just hold your breath the moment you step inside

Dangling crystals from the ceiling, all over. Wish upon a crystal!

Errm, the combination of Le Quartier du Marais, Montmartre together with a touch of Moulin Rough?! lol.

My photography sucks ok. Please visit Café Café’s website to check out the professional photos. You’ll love'em.

Now let’s move on to food!!!

Appetizer

Escargot topped with foie gras and truffles

I didn’t have this. I’m escargot-phobic. (Tabacco allergic, caffeine intolerant… I know!! >_<)

Pan-seared foie gras

Babybelle: Dollies, you HAVE TO try this.

(*kan cheongs* in case they go crazy over it, i die la. i'll have only the gravvy all to myself. lol.)

Princess: *not interested* I like my duck.
Tiara: *hesitates* Erm… No thanx..
Dazzling: *gasps* I'm sooo full. I’ve had a three course meal in TGIF!
Angel: *shakes head* on diet.

Babybelle holding a fork with a mellow juicy piece of foie gras, staring at Jewel.

Jewel: oooookay… *opens her mouth*
Jewel: 0_o (for 10 second)
Jewel: I sooooooo regretted having escargot. Can we swap?
Babybelle: Muahahaha no.

This. is. the. bestestest. Foie. Gras. in. the. world.

I went speechless for one whole minute before I could tell them how good it was.

It just melts on your tongue like that. And… forgive me, I still can’t describe how good it was.

I think, Café Café should modify their set menu a little. This pan seared Foie Gras should be served as a dessert, because you simply don’t feel like eating any thing else after just one bite. You just don’t want other taste to overlap this Foie Gras intoxication. Trust me, you don’t even feel like brushing your teeth before you sleep because you want it lingers into your dream.

I’m serious you know. Next time I’ll order it as a dessert.

Foie Gras Salad

Foie Gras again. This time with salad. Just as intoxicating.

Main

Fettuccini with white truffles sauce

I always wonder how truffle tastes like. Of course I have tried truffles. Like, chocolate truffle. But the real truffle?

Truffles and Foie Gras are Café Café’s specialty.

10 out of 10 for Foie Gras. This truffle sauce… hmmm… It’s no doubt very rich in erm… truffles?

The thing is, after eating the pasta, I still don’t know how truffle taste like. lol.

But someone said it tasted like petroleum?!?

0_o

I didn’t finish it though. (and the waiter asked if there’s anything wrong with it *paiseh*) because someone wouldn’t want to help me with it. Cutting carbs, bah!

Grilled cod and scallop

The presentation reminds me of the Egyptian Pyramids. It looks like the skid that could transfer bricks/stones to the pyramid site.

Imagine the scallop is one huge block of stone, and is being carried on the skid (the cod body) on four giant rolling leeks, in a pool of uhm… mud?

Enough nonsense. Go on and I might ruin your appetite. Hehe.

But look at the texture of the cod. It was just so fresh. Gravvy is greenish, but you can’t see clearly because the color of this photo is hopelessly irreparable.

Just don’t quite fancy the giant rollers though.

Dessert

Tiramisu

Sorry for the bad picture, again. But the good news is, it’s better than what it looks. =D

Crème Brulee with Espresso and Amaretto

Jewel loves Crème Brulee.
Jewel loves Amaretto.
So this is like double the love.

For the first time we ate Crème Brulee differently. Jewel kept pouring Amaretto and I kept filling it with espresso.

The espresso was too good I went a tad espresso OD. Hence the disastrous insomnia.
Price to pay for good dessert!

Grand Marnier

Neat. So it's extremely tangy.
As if I’ve not gotten enough of Tiramisu.
But where’s my frangelico?!

Verdict:
The dolls love Café Café.
Me loves Café Café.
Everybody loves Café Café.

It’s harder to find people who dislike Café Café than people who love Britney Spears.

So, “OMG how can you not have been to Café Café?!”

=))

Cheese of the day #7

Got these snacks from Taipei. Some are supposedly Xmas tidbits but somehow they became my CNY snacks.

Doritos Spicy Cheese Nachos

It is a Xmas special. The Nachos are in Xmas tree shapes. How cute! There’s another Guacamole version and I personally prefer that, because this is way, too, spicy.

What to do. I’m a lemon herb person when it comes to Nando’s.

Doritos Golden Cheese Nachos

Another fancy packaging which is pointless. It doesn’t taste any different from the normal Doritos except it is a tad sweeter, I guess. She didn’t want to eat it because she thought it was spicy, because she read “Super Hot”. But how could she not see the dog. It is printed so big.

These are like twisties, nothing too hotgoddy. Cheesh whats wrong with me. Hotdoggy. Alright.

Oh and here comes the classic.

可乐果 试嚼系

Cheesh. Read that. That. Is the most creative pun I’ve ever seen on a cheese snack packaging. Ever.

It’s garlic&cheese snack, there’s no exact translation to it. The nearest I could get is prolly “Don’t pretend. I’m cheesed!” But that’s too far from its original meaning.

Are Taiwanese cheesnius or what?

Too bad la if you don’t read Chinese. You just missed the joke made of Garlic and Cheese. Go ask your non-banana friend.

Alternatively, consult me. Bakerzin is a dessert heaven. Imagine how happy I was when it finally came to 1 Utama, after O’Briens and Delicious.

I’ve done a little snooping around on the net and apparently Bakerzin has a very reputable consistency in its food quality. A blogger said she’s tried the same food from Bakerzin in Singapore and KL and they are not different in any way.

Brioches mushroom fricassee
Sautéed mushroom, spinach & poached egg on brioche bread

This is categorized under “heartier meals”, but the portion is kinda small as a main course. I would say it is a little tasteless too.

Seafood spaghetti

This looked nice, but I didn’t try it. The original meal is meant for two, but you can always ask them to reduce the portion to one, for half the price.

Champignons ala crème
Mushroom stew served in traditional herb flavored vol-au-vent with mesclun salad.

Erm... Whatever that means...

-.-"

I noticed Bakerzin uses lots and lotsa champignons in their dishes. Personally I love mushroom itself a lot, but not cream of mushroom though. Weird. Maybe it was the countless bad experiences with Pizza Hut and Campbell. You’ll never hear me order mushroom cappuccino. However wild it is. LOL.

But if you do like cream of mushroom, lucky you, this is like a special version of “mushroom soup in the bread”, with thicker, more concentrated cream of mushroom and crispier pastry instead of soggy bread.

Lavender Tea

A change of taste from my usual cuppa chamomile. A very lovely romantic tea in pink with a faint aroma of lavender.

Strawberry Juice (Fresh blended!!)

This is NOT in the menu. I wonder how Princess discovered this rare gem. She must have been asking all restaurants if they serve strawberry juice, hmmm.

Jewel and I decided to go drinkless (we’ve just had tea in Dome!)

Ordered the drink Princess did, and off for a ciggie break with Angel she went. Then that pinkish-red glass of thick liquid came.

Jewel: Looks nice.
Babybelle: Sure does.
Jewel: Hmmm.

She stared at me for awhile, and looked stealthily at the direction where Princess’s gone. Then without saying a word, she took a sip of that drink.

Jewel: *gasps* Stellarific!

Me stared at her for awhile, and looked stealthily at the direction where Princess’s gone. Without saying a word, I took over the glass and had a sip too.

Babybelle: *gasps* Cheesarific.

*together* Jewel&Babybelle waved at the waiter.

Jewel: Another glass of strawberry juice please.
Babybelle: Make it two. Without sugar, please.

*Princess walks back into the scene and notices that three glass of juices*

Jewel: We’re kind of, erm…
Babybelle: Thirsty, yes.

Café Latte

Also check out this café latte with (literally) lovely froth. Awww… how lovey dovey.

The food is pleasant enough but a little pricey compared to other similar cafés such as Delicious and Robbert Harris. The two mushroom dishes are RM21 each. So be prepared to fork out an RM50 note for another drink and a dessert, if you go alone that is.

But heck, what's fun to have dessert without sharing!

Stay cheesed for Bakerzin Part II, Chapter Dessert!!

Patchi

Patchi is the ultimate gianduja* chocolate expert. Better than Kinder Bueno.

There are two types of Patchi—Classic (gold wrapping) and Deluxe (silver wrapping).

There are more than 40 types of Patchi, most of them are gianduja*-based.

Some of the choco I’ve tried:

HARMONIE
White choc filled with crisped rice and hazelnut pieces. Perfect for someone who has a sweet tooth and like to have something to chew on. But I’m not a fan of white choc so I’ll pass.

MARQUISE
Milk Choc filled with gianduja, crisped rice, almond and hazelnut pieces.

FORTUNA
Dark choc stuffed with gianduja. Tastes similar to Marquise. Just simpler and smoother.

BISCUITINE
Milk choc filled with wafers. Tastes like your typical Loacker wafer biscuit.

PARFAIT
Dark choc filled with truffle fudge. Eating this is like having found an exquisite jewel box, and to discover a huge glistening gem inside.

BUT my ultimate Patchi indulgence would be:

ROYAL
Milk choc filled with gianduja and one whole hazelnut.

I’m eating it now while typing.

The choccie is excreamly (sheesus shrus, ze hazelnut cream ish so kao it hangles wis my hongue, I cant even pro-ounce it proherly!!), heavenly.

Nuff said.

*Gianduja—Hazelnut cream. Care to sign the “we-want-cheese-chocolate” petition?

Meiji Melty Kiss (Strawberry)

Bought it from Singpore, a winter special edition Meiji. I felt very guilty cuz I actually bought this for Ichigo**. I buy everything strawberry for her. From chocolate to lipgloss to dress (not flavored la, it was a strawberry-motif cocktail dress). Anycheese, I opened and devoured the choc before it even reached her. Too much a temptation.

*Hypnotized emo*

This has to be the most most most strawberrilicious choccie in the Chocolate Kingdom.

They are strawberry cubes sprinkled with thick dark choco powder.

So authentically strawberrilicious you could even taste the tiny strawberry seed bits.

I would trade Rodrigo Santoro’s kiss for this, seriously.

So I ate, and ate, and ate…

O_o

Gommene Ichigo!

(** for Japanese-illiterates, ichigo means Strawberry in jap.)

Meiji Melty Kiss (Green)

I always love green tea. But I cannot get over the hypnotizing strawberry melty kiss.
So this green tea kiss tasted really plain.
Argh. I’m bound to be haunted by that deadly kiss forever.

Meiji Melty Kiss (Precious cocoa)

It has a rich dark choco flavor. It’s dusty-powdery cocoa on the outside and soft-creamy choco filling inside. Double dose of choco!

Princess Lyss likes it a lot. She went Parie-ish and said “That’s hot! Thank you doll, I love it so much, like, totally!”

If I hadn’t tried the strawberry one I would prolly give this a seven…… ok point five.

But too bad lor, I’m damn spoiled. =(

I want my strawberry melty kiss!!

I’m so stupid. I saw it in Taipei but didn’t buy because it was slightly more expensive than the one in Singapore. Now Xmas over d. Hmmph!

*pouts*
*stomps feet*
*arms akimbo*

Then I hunted around in PJ but couldn’t find any. There’re lotsa Meiji choccies but nothing comes close to that breathtaking kiss.

Anycheese, at least a little consolation.

Meiji Macadamia Chocolate (Roiyaru Miruku Tii)

Ok so you ask what the hell is Roiyaru Miruku Tii.

Me suggest you go learn Katakana.

This choccie gave me some lolling. Imagine half way drinking your teh tarik tambah manis and finding yourself chomping chunky macadamia bits.

That’s how it tastes like.

Just they don’t call it teh tarik . It’s called Royal Milk Tea. Repeat after me, Roi-ya-ru Mi-ru-ku-Tiiiii.

=D

Royce Marshmallow Chocolate (Miruku Kohii)

Miruku Kohii Marshmallow choco.

This time no need translation right. If you still don’t get it, seriously, Katakana lessons, CNY special discount for you. And by the cheese, I charge by hour.

I left this box of choccie at home and happily went shopping.

Then I received an sms from Your Majesty.

“The choco is super delicious can’t stop eating by the way what time are you coming home?”

(She hates pressing they keypad many many times hence the lack of punctuation marks.)

Ok I have to tell you the last time mom texted me was two years ago, before she finally decided sms is a stupid thing to do when you can just press call.

Imagine how nice the choccie is it made mom go cheesiao.

Royce Marshmallow Chocolate (Howaito)

It says “Howaito”. But howaito what? howaito chocolate?

It doesn’t taste white chocolate. It tastes like a fluffy marshmallow pillow wrapped in a thick layer of Dumex Baby Formula. So so so milky.

Still I prefer to go cheesiao. =D

Cheese those better-than-Rodrigo’s-kiss-choccie out!!

Cheese of the day #6

<marquee> Cheese of the day </marquee>

They are air flown then driven back from far far away land back to PJ, so they’d better be cheesy!!

Epicure Cheese Cocktail

These are little ice-cream cone puffs injected with cheese-flavored cream.
But those little puffs are all broken into halves and the stubborn cream gets stuck on either hemisphere. It is good because it doesn’t mix up the flavors and create a chaotic medley on your tastebuds.

Very cheesy and extremely crispy. Crisp crisp crisp crisp!!

Also, love the poppy and sesame bits, which give you extra munchies!
The most munchable snack!

Cheesability:
/10

ROKA Cheese Crispies

Ooops. And I thought Cheese fingers were crispy enough.

These freaking crispy crispies, are the crispiest crispies you’ll ever try!

It tastes almost the same as the fingers, just in flaky flat pastry form.

Warning: do not munch these crispies while watching Lost in Translation. You will never hear a thing from your stereo.

Cheesability:
/10

La Manila + Paddington

Time for some long-time-no-cheese food review.

La Manila (TTDI)

La Manila Fried Rice

The La Manila fried rice got me completely hooked the first time I tried it in Mid Valley with Mozzie. I rated it the 3rd best fried rice I’ve ever eaten. It has got so much eggs. Eggs shreds in the rice, plus another fried egg! Eggilicious! Jewel's gonna love it!

Mozzie’s Fried Kuey Teow was exceptionally delicious too. What’s more, even the cincau was so much better than Yeo’s, Season’s… whatever brand you can name.

BUT.

I have to say, this fried rice here is so disappointing. Is the chef in TTDI branch having PMS or what? Why is the quality so not up to par? The keropok was soggy and the rice was too ajinomotoful.

Therefore, I didn’t really bother to try the Fried Kuey teow.

But of cheese, you can try and let me know. Thank you.

Paddington House of Pancakes

So silly of me to think pancakes are for breakfast/dessert.

So wrong!

There are so so so many varieties of pancakes, big one, small one, flat one, thick one, soft one, hard one, doughy one, fluffy one, round one, square one, dollar-shaped one, crepe-like one, waffle-like one, sweet one, savory one, American one, British one, cheesy one, non-cheesy one… Ok enough. Too much.

Whoa, I need a whole month to finish tasting each and every one of them.

Someone should have enlightened my ignorance of pancakes earlier so I can start my pancake marathon sooner. LOL

Traditional honey stacks

Plain pancake with honey and melting butter. Simple and sweet. =)
Oh, lovely blueberry garnish by the way. =D

Savory American Pancake Stacks

Fluffy pancakes with double gourmet cheese sausages, beef salami, hash brown & grilled mozzarella, served with brown sauce.

Whoa…The melted cheese was eagerly oozing out with every bite on the sausages. Oh so abso-cheesing-lutely cheesy!!

Paddington Style Buckwheat Galettes (gah-let)

For the Galettes, there’re more than 10 varieties and each of them represents a city.

Mine was Brussels.

It is a buckwheat crepe with cheesy beef bacon, mozzarella cheese, sunny-side-up, bake beans and guacamole served with little side salad. Healthy!

Eh, I don’t see no sprouts though. Hehe.

It is so breakfasty! Jewel is gonna love this too. You, egg freak!
Ok I mean we, egg freaks!

And finally...

Hot Choc

My must-order item in a new café.

Well, tasted decent enough but seemed like the cocoa powder was not very well dissolved. However, love the little marshmallows. =)

I’m so going back to Paddington, along with the Stellars, cuz we decided to make every Wed the Egg Day, Thursday the Cheese Day and Friday the Egg and Cheese Day. LOL.

Gastronomy Therapy

Wanted to do these food reviews some time ago.
Eating, after all, is the best antidote for any poisonous ailment. But of course it comes with a price to pay.

Let’s see what made my days.

Delicious Café By Ms Read

Marshmallow Melting Pot

This cocoa’s kao-ness is crazy. I think they freaking just pour super kao choco fudge instead of cocoa powder into the glass.
The kaoest hot choco I’ve ever tried. But it is very different.
It’s like a divorcing married couple.
In the glass, milk is milk, choco is choco. They won’t even melt in each other’s embrace even when stirred vigorously.
They refuse to reconcile because they don’t belong to each other.
Innocent little marshmallow kiddies are floating aimlessly on the foam, and waiting cluelessly to be devoured by desperation and greed.

Ok I know I shouldn’t sound so cynical to food. Sorry so let’s move on to the next one.

Spinach Quiche with Pine Nuts

It was tasteless.
Period.
To keep up with my lousy gastronomic skill I better write abit more.
Well the best part (in fact the only good part) of this quiche was the crust. It says cheesy crust in the menu but it didn’t taste cheesy. Nevermind, as long as it was crispy. Plus it tasted oatish too.
The tart was extremely eggy, but still tasteless. Didn’t really go with the spinach too.
It will be disappointing trying to find the hidden pine nuts (or the lack thereof).

Alexis Bistro

I forgot what it this called but apparently it’s some antipasto tapas.
There are three dips that come together with this dish. I only recognized guacamole. The other two tasted weird.
One thing I will never forget is that the cherry tomatoes tasted FIZZY!!!
But I don’t think the tomatoes had gone bad.
I have never ever tasted anything like this. It’s like they have soaked them in soda for hours.

I only had sip of this and it was ok la. Quite rich and creamy. After all we didn’t come here for the food but the dessert!!!!

My fav of all time—Mix Fruit Meringue!!
A mix of mango and kiwi dices, blueberries and strawberries on top of (and inside!) layers of yummy cream and spongy yet crispy sugar-eggwhite base.
The choice of sour fruits tames down this sugary cake just right. Simply woolala.

Of course, how could I miss Frangelico!!
The waitress frowned when I did the order. Apparently the drink is still exclusively Ringoistic. LOL.
Hey the Frangelico here tasted different. I had it on the rock instead of with milk. They didn’t put a slice of lime in it so it was not sour. But still very naish!
Should try it with milk next time.

Grappa

Finally I was here again. Thought of giving the tiramisu here a second chance because they all say it is the best one in town. The ultra kao liquor in the Grappamisu I had last time almost got me drunk. Silly of me not sticking to the original classic. But i was too full at the end of the meal so next time ok.

Gorgonzola Cheese Penne with Rocket

I love rocket! You hear me yet? I lurrrrrrrve rocket…
I wanted rocket salad, baaaadly. As badly as I did want Mos Burger.
Gorgonzola was okay. But I’m not a fan of penne.
I just don’t like holey pasta. I believe only cheese can be holy.
But the rocket!
*chomps chomps chomps*

Quattro Formaggi XXX

Yes it is Four-cheese XXX.
Of course it is not called “ex ex ex” but I can’t tell you what it is.
Bleh.
This is the best best bestest pasta. It melts in your mouth. And the cream is… heavenly.
But I’m not gonna tell you what it is.
It is something special. And if you do know, you are someone special. =)

Robbert Harris

My usual cup of hot choco.
Doesn’t taste extra chocolicious but it’s heart-warming.
The smiley puts a smile on my face too. =)

Cheese of the day #5

<marquee> Cheese of the day </marquee>

Ritz Crackers'n Cheez

Manufacturer: Kraft
Product's Name: Ritz Crackers'n Cheez
Availablity: Jusco

Crackers and cheese dip. Reminds me of the breadstick and choco dip with colored rice balls i used to have when i was young. Very nostalgic.

The cheddar dip is really nice, but it should be less salty especially when the crackers themselves are lightly salted.

When you finish the fourth cracker, you don't know what do to with the remaining dip because it's so salty you just cant eat it alone.

Cheesability:
/10

Goldfish Baked Snack Crackers

Manufacturer: Pepperidge Farm
Product's Name: Goldfish Baked Snack Crackers
Availablity: Jusco

It says baked with real cheese. Hmmm no wonder they are so stingy on it.
These little fishies are not very cheesy.
You gotta feed them parmesan cheesebaits when they swim in your soup.

Cheesability:
/10

HERR's Nachitas (Nacho cheese flavored)

Manufacturer: Herr's
Product's Name: Nachitas (Nacho cheese flavored
Availablity: Only seen in KIOSK
Price: RM7.50

A friend recommended this brand. So we went all the way to KIOSK to get these Nachos so that we can get drunk on cheese while running on a cheesy DVD marathon.

Compared to Dorito's, it is way less cheesy. Me and mozzie were not high on the cheesy aroma the moment we opened the nacho bag like we did with Ruffles. It's saltier than Dorito's too.
But its saving grace is the crispiness. The tortillas chips are thinner therefore crispier too.

Cheesability:
/10

Herr's Baked cheese curls

Manufacturer: HERR's
Product's Name: Baked cheese curls
Availablity: Only seen in KIOSK
Price: RM7.50

First of all, it is not curly. I don't know why it is called cheese curls anyway.
Mozzie was making jokes of what they look like. It's a little obscene so i will skip that.

As usual, I popped the first small, erm, curl? into Mozzie's mouth as she is my official cheesebits taster.

Then i saw her face turn more crumpled then an apple crumble. Then i tasted one myself. I become another apple crumble.

It is sooooooooo salty.

But later we actually finished half of it during our final radio show. Mozzie said it was not that salty anymore after the 3rd or 4th erm, curl? Maybe it numbed our tastebuds.

Cheesability:
/10

Cheese of the day #4

<marquee> Cheese of the day </marquee>

Jacob's Bites (Cheezy Cheddar)

Manufacturer: Jacob's
Product's Name: Jacob's bite Cheezy Cheddar
Availablity: Local supermarket. I got it from Shell Petrol Kiosk
Price: RM1

It tasted like normal mini crackers sprinkled with Parmesan (not cheddar) powder.
The size is just nice to ease a sudden hunger pang often occurs when you are feeling completely clueless during your website design class. :P

Cheesability:
/10

Ski D'lite Caremel Cheesecake Yogurt

Manufacturer: Dairy Farmers
Product's Name: D'lite Caremel Cheesecake
Availablity: Local supermarket.
Price: RM4.90

Finally. If ice cream can have cheesecake flavors, why can't yougurt? They are kith and kin for cheese's cake.
Anyway. I bought two flavors. They are caramel cheesecake and Vanilla Boysenberry (Cheez, sounds like poison berry.)
The caramel cheesecake flavor? Whoa, it's like eating caramelized cream cheese! But it can be abit dull to gulp down the whole 200g because there's no "chewable" bits in the yougurt unlike its fruit counterpart. It would be better if it contains some cracker/cookie crumbs. But the best bit? It's 99% fat free!

Cheesability:
/10

Dorito's Nacho Cheesier!(Cheezy Cheddar)

Manufacturer: Fritolay's
Product's Name: Dorito's Nacho Cheesier
Availablity: Cold Storage
Price: RM6+

Look carefully, it is Nacho Cheesier, not Nacho Cheesy.
This nacho corn chip for sure lives up to its title. But Ruffle beats it for both texture and aroma.
This Nacho reminds me of "Love Actually" and "A lot Like Love". Why? Cuz they are all corny and cheesy! Maybe they shall make it their official movie snack.

Cheesability:
/10

Epicure Assorted Mini Cheese Puffs

Manufacturer: Epicure
Product's Name: Assorted Mini Cheese Puffs
Availablity: Jaya Jusco
Price: RM11+

These mini pastries are made with edam and gouda cheeses.
First of all the packaging is flawed. Although the word "assorted", every different kind of pastries should be seprately packed, because the assortment kind of messes your taste buds up. Every pastry has its individual flavor such as poppy-seed and herbs (of course everything is paired with cheese too). When mixed together, all lost its own unique taste.
However, i give extra points to the crispiness.
Cheesability:
/10

Snyder's of Hanover

Manufacturer: Snyder's of Hanover
Product's Name: Snyder's of Hanover Cheddar Cheese Pieces (Pretzel)
Availablity: Cold Storage, Starbucks
Price: RM4.90(in Starbucks, the price is about RM3 higher. Ask your barista why.)

The snack is hardened pretzels crushed into smaller pieces. This makes you less likely to choke on it, i guess. Bush you hear me? LOL.

The golden orangey color of the pretzel pieces is extremely strong. So strong it almost glow in the dark. Also it leaves golden residue all over your fingers, just like Cheezels Rings.

Mind you. the cheese flavor is so strong you can get drunk on it. Therefore, an overconsumption might leave you a massive hangover the next hour. The only thing is that u might get a jaw ache due to vigorous crushing of those pretzel pieces.

So this is like a snack with 80% cheese alcohol? But seriously. Me and Mozzie came to an agreement that this is the best non-chip cheese snack so far.

Cheesability:
.5/10

Lunchie of the day

Another lunchful day!
This is what i had for lunch in Mizu, Bangsar Village.

☆。Cucumber Sticks + Miso dip
☆。Toro & Spring Onion temaki
☆。Foie Gras Chawan Mushi
☆。Grilled Kobe beef

Mizu has some innovative specialty menu, unlike other Jap restaurants which have the typical boring teppanyaki/tempura/sashimi bento sets. The cucumber starter was absolutely refreshing and healthy. With the savory miso beans, it is almost a perfect match. Not to mention unique too. Thousand island? Blah!

I was expecting alot from the toro and spring onion hand roll. But to my disappointment, it doesnt taste any different from a tuna temaki in any other lousy jap fast food chain. The Foie Gras Chawan Mushi with Shark Fin gravvy might sound very fancy and OTT, but trust me, it's a complete waste of money. Even the one in Yoshinoya tastes better. Well, maybe not. Okay i changed my mind. It was not that bad, just that it tasted too disappointing compared to its name. RM25 for plain egg custard topped with fishy goose liver paste and starchy gravvy?

The Kobe beef was, of course, Kobelicious. Actually what made it extra yummy was the unidentified sauce dip. If only i know how to make that thingie, i can make frozen Ayamas drumstick as tasty as this. Anywee, it still cant beat the Matsuzaka beef in Ozeki.

Thats not all i had this afternoon. There was another tea session downstairs at Bakerzin.

☆。Half slice of Mango Mousse
☆。Half slice of Sweet Pleasure
☆。A cup of hot chocolate

Mango Mousse was pleasant. Sweet Pleasure, which was made of layers of super thin milk choc, hazelnut cream and a crispy base, tasted uncannily identical to Fererro Roche. It's like eating an elongated version. But it wasn't too sweet as it name suggests. The hot chocolate was nicely foamed (which i think they use whipped cream to create the 1-inch thickness and the heart pattern on top. But it didn't taste as good as it looked.

Anywee. Thats still not all. I tapao-ed one Choco cake (forgot its fancy name) and a tiramisu. Going to enjoy now so see you.

Dinner of the day

I just so wanna blog about food.
I had a heavy lunch in the afternoon, so i thought of going for something light. And found this little cafe called the Departure Lounge hoping for some salad or sandwhiches. Anyway, as its fancy name suggests, it has a concept which definitely gets all the attention.

The decor is minimal and clean. It works with the travelling concept. It has several book shelves, all full of travel guides for most of the popular contries. They have these little bookmarks resemble a boarding pass that you can take home. The cafe also covers wifi, and provides free internet access.

The cafe is also just newly opened. The food menu will only e available tomorrow. So all i could have was some cakes and pastries. Too lazy to go anywhere else, i settled for a hot chocolate and some dessert.

On every table there is a little standie that says "come hungry" on the front, and different statements at the back. The one on my table was "The Taj Mahal looks pink in the morning, milky white in the evening and golden when the moon shines".

The overall concept is creative, but i wonder how many person actually come and read the books here. Talk about the food, new restaurants always give little baits for potential fishes out there. This cafe offers free pastries for every drink purchased. I chose a chocolate crossaint to go with my hot chocolate.

The little crossaint was crispy outside and soft inside, which was nice. But thats all about the good stuff. The rest are disaster. The hot choc was too milky, and the tiramisu was worse. Have u ever tasted tiramisu which is sour? This tiramisu not only had a sour taste in the cream, the whole thing also had a dried sour plum flavor, im not kidding. And it was too dry to be even called a tiramisu. I would say it taste more like a Sour-Plum-Tiramisu-Flavored Short Cake. LOL. The blueberry cheesecake was not worth a mention either.

Sigh. I might give a second chance to the food coming soon in October.

People always ask me this question: Do you go for the ambience or the food?
If you think i opt for the latter, you are wrong.
You can only be qualified to be as fastidious a person as me when you sacrifice neither.

Well, i know the dinner is quiet unhealthy. Ya ya ya, i heard you mom, more veggies. Right. So, excuse me for a moment cause i now want to hallucinate about me being a cow on the lawn.

Lunchie of the day

Instead of cheese, im doing a lunch review today. Fresh from my stomach! LOL. But this time no simultaneous tasting and typing.

Just came back from Chikusen, the newly opened japanese restaurant in Aman Suria. So happy there are so many nice restaurants opened near my place. Need not travel that far for good food next time.

Anyway, this is a dainty little one. However i think it is a little overpriced for a restaurant. Chikusen and Eyuzu (Eastin) and Genji (PJ Hilton), as far as price goes, they are on a par.

It was Chikusen Bento for lunch today. I always opt for the signature bento whenever i try a new jap restaurant. If my cheesy tastebuds react nastily to it, then it's not worth going the second time. How good can the restaurant be if the signature dish is not up to the standard.

Anyway, the bento consists of the typical chawanmushi, miso soup, gohan, salmon and white fish sashimi, sliced beef, mini tempura, marinated baby octopus, pickles and fruits. And it came along with a free macha ice cream too, during its opening promotion. All for the price of RM35.

Believe it or not, i finished everything, except the gohan. Cheesing huge appetite today. And these are my observations:

1. You can already give a rough rating to a jap restaurant the moment you try their chawanmushi. For Chikusen i give a 6.5. The smoothness and fragrance actually deserve a 7.5 but it's a tad too salty. For me it's alright, but most of the people like to eat chawanmushi with shoyu. If u add shoyu in this chawanmushi you are like eating salted custard.

2. The sashimi is good and fresh.

3. The baby octupus is superb. Juicy and, crunchy too!

4. The salad dressing taste a little out of place. Imagine thousand island which as a strong sesame/peanut flavor. It is like eating satay sauce.

5. The sliced beef taste more like pork, seriously. I tot the Halal sign was my hallucination again.

6. The macha ice-cream is totally refreshing. Instead of the traditional scoop, it came in little square cubes. And it tasted more popsicle-icy than rich and creamy, therefore it wont make u feel over satiated after a heavy meal.

7. The ocha tasted like plain water in a glass that used to be filled with tea leaves before.

Overall the food deserve a 7. But because of the price, i give it only a 6. Nothing beats Mitsu Koshi when quality and price are concerned.

Cheese(s) of the day #3

<marquee> The Return of the Cheese! </marquee>

I've been rather cheeseless these days really. I didnt know Danish cheeses are Holy too! It has irregular pin-holes.
Havarti is creamery and semi-soft. At first bite it tastes uncannily similar to mozzarella. But when u chow down more, you will find it slightly less chewy but it has a more distictive flavor than mozza. And yes, it melts!! Great on toasts, or in between. Simple and sweet. Ok, not quite literally.

Trivia:Havarti is named after the farm in Denmark where Hanne Nielsen first made it.

Cheesability:
/10

Mainland Colby Cheese(Block)

Brand: New Zealand Mainland Cheese
Product Name: Colby
Availablity: Cold Storage
Price: RM9.39
Country: New Zealand
Origin: Colby Wisconsin
Milk: Cow
Texture: Semi-soft

At first i suspected Colby is not a type of cheese cuz i only came across it very recently, when a friend told me about it. After a long research it seems like Colby is a fake version of cheddar. No offense but im a true-yellow fan of cheddar. Gourmets often compare it with cheddar and it is supposed to taste similar to cheddar. However, i find no resemblence whatsoever between these two cheeses except their initials. Cheddar is savory, whereas Colby is slightly sweet and sharp. To me it shares more similarity with Emmentaler or Gouda. Also, Colby tastes very very buttery. I dont quite like the idea of chowing down a whole block of butter.

So it's a fiver.

Cheesability:
/10

La Vache Qui Rite Cheddar(Sliced)

Brand: La Vache Qui Rite (Means Laughing Cow in french)
Product Name: La Vache Qui Rite Cheddar
Availablity: Cold Storage
Price: RM6.99
Country:
Milk: Cow
Texture: Semi-soft

Seriously, i never have any doubt when it comes to Laughing Cow. I've tried almost everything from it and none of them was disappointing. They have some of the best cheeses among all other brands ever found in local supermarkets. There're many other Laughing Cows, but i was physically attracted to the sexy orangey cheddarish color which sent the strong message that says "pick me, i am so kao". LOL! Anyway. It looks just like your Cheesedales wrapped in the exact same plastics, but it is the best sliced cheddar i am pretty sure.

Much to my relieve, the color is not deceiving. In fact, the kao-ness is pleasantly strong.

Cheddar away! Strip it and melt it in your mouth! Or wherever u like. LOL. Mind you, this is helluva sexy cheddar.

It is the cheapest among all three semi-soft cheeses yet the highest rated.

Cheesability:
.5 /10

*All reviews are done simultaneously with the tasting process for optimum quality*

Cheese of the day #2

<marquee> Cheese of the day! </marquee>

Cheese-flavored Cod Fish Stick

Brand: Natori
Product Name: Chiizu Tara
Availablity: Isetan
Price: RM10.90

I bought this because of the fish, not the cheese. Okay, I crapped that out but it is waaaaaaaaay too salty! ( I tried it with a couple of cream crakers.)

It has a distinctive flavor of smokiness which very much resembles the taste of smoked turkey ham. Best used to spice up, I mean, salt up a bland salad bowl.

Also great for vegetarians who wants a cheesy alternative for ham and bacon in their lunchbox.

Rating: /10
